UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH, THE TRUTH The network lines that carry data around the web (optic fiber, cable, copper wire etc) have a finite capacity. There is a limit to the amount of data that can be transferred at any point in time. Likewise, the hard drive of a web server has a limited amount of space determined by the physical size of the hard drive. Both are commodities which costs money. Hence it impossible for any company to provide unlimited bandwidth and diskspace.

So if impossible for an hosting company to provide unlimited bandwidth and diskspace, why are web hosting companies offering such plans?

Most websites on the net only consume a very small amount of bandwidth and disk space. Web hosting companies that provide unlimited bandwidth as a plan feature are cashing on the fact that you won't use very much. Unlimited is a marketing gimmick to get your business.

Most webhosting companies that offer unlimited as a plan feature will have restrictions on using the server resources, restrictions on upload and downloads of audio & video etc.

If you intend to have a lot of visitors to your site, lots of downloads, including audio or video files, do not choose an unlimited plan hoping to get unrestricted bandwidth. You will find yourself with problems. Your web host is not going to run at a loss for long - they could shut down your website or even charge you extra (read the terms of service carefully before signing for an unlimited plan.)

marketing - it is all about the words. Some people will get taken by it but I think more people are learning

Yep, it is just marketing. Done just to attract customers, in reality it is not possible to offer unlimited bandwidth.

There are some terms & conditions when any hosting company offers unlimited bandwidth.

I think there is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth, If any company claims to offer unlimited bandwidth, that company is misleading the customers.
