Hurricane Electric Goes to Amsterdam

Hurricane Electric, a leading Technical Service Provider, announced today that it has expanded its global network by connecting to an Internet Exchange point in Amsterdam called AMS-IX (The Amsterdam Internet Exchange), one of Europe's largest Internet exchange points.

Hurricane Electric's node in the NIKHEF facility in Amsterdam is connected by OC48 to the rest of Hurricane Electric's global OC48 backbone, ranked among the top in the world. The newly added exchange point will provide additional redundancy to Hurricane Electric's global network and create shorter packet routes to numerous other networks. Hurricane Electric employs a Gigabit Ethernet port to the AMS-IX switch, which gives it the ability to peer with hundreds of additional networks, institutions and companies throughout Europe.

"Our LINX exchange at Telehouse London was very well received by our national and international customers and we are anticipating an equally positive response to the Amsterdam exchange."

The Amsterdam connection follows an upgrade to the LINX exchange at Telehouse London. Hurricane Electric currently employs two Gigabit Ethernet ports to the LINX exchange. The Amsterdam connection, in conjunction with the upgrade to LINX, has dramatically improved connectivity to Europe. With the addition of the Amsterdam exchange point, Hurricane Electric has enhanced its self-healing network architecture, which now includes eleven major exchange points around the world.

Hurricane Electric is now offering direct connections in Amsterdam. To celebrate the addition of the AMS-IX exchange point, Hurricane Electric is extending two special "Hello Amsterdam" offers. The first offer is a transit promotion, which will allow those who own their own AS number and address space to receive 100 Mbps free with the purchase of 100 Mbps or more via Gigabit Ethernet. With this promotion, it would cost just $3,000 for 200 Mbps burstable on a GigE interface.

The second offer is flat rate Gigabit Ethernet transit (1,000 Mbps of IP) for $17,000 per month. Both of these special offers are available in two locations in Europe: NIKHEF (AMS-IX) Amsterdam, NL; and Telehouse (LINX) in London, UK.
