I am looking for a web host that supplies chat room software with their package any suggestions ??
davegil
okay forget about the chat software Ive found what I need for $30 a month what I need is a host with Unlimited email POP accounts and a decent CPU usage allowance I would estimate 15 hours CPU usage a month
Jaiem
At the risk of being a broken recording, be careful of the "unlimited" part. Nothing is unlimited. Maybe very high, but there is a limit.
Can you quantify about how many POP3's you need? IOW, why do you feel you need "unlimited" POP3's?

I'm not sure what you mean by this, davegil. Do you need exclusive use of all CPU resources for 15 hours per month?
The CPU(s) are a shared resource. All the sites on that particular server share the CPU's at all times.
Running a web server isn't something that is CPU intensive, especially if the OS is *nix. Windows-based servers are a whole nother ball of wax.
Same with RAM, everyone shares the same RAM with the OS and whatever else is running on the server.

I have a cgi discussion board and my present host says I can only use which is my share I guess 6 CPU hours a month. My current host is a unix operation

Hi Dave,
Humm, well every host has different policies. About the board?
Is this a ubb, vb or what type board?
How many members?
Also, do you know what you are transferring per month in the way of bandwidth?
davegil
Its a YaBB board Im using about 4000mb of bandwidth but bandwidth isnt the problem its the CPU usage

15 hours a month really isn't that bad. That's 30 minutes a day. There's 24 hours in a normal day (only about 4 in mine, it seems), so 30 minutes really isn't that bad on a good server.
Btw, you've got a private message.
davegil
how do I get a private message
