phpbb forums are free.

And you could get some very basic hosting for a couple of dollars per month. Really, that's no cost at all. Of course, it may not be a great plan, but it's better than nothing.

You should understand that forums can be very resource intensive, hence the fact 'free' hosting that allows them is rare. If you're not willing for pay for the resources you use, then it's the webhost that has to take on that burden.

I think www.synikals.com offers php hosting

then use www.freesql.org for the mysql part & you are setup for free !

but as like others paying few dollars to your need is not a badone........

It seems their website has disappeared. It might be a hard drive issue, but it's generally not a good sign.

You can post your topic of interest and proficiency in the same. A few may come forward to host the forum for free if the discussion forum is of general interest, and draws good traffic. Goodluck!

You can get a lot of free hosting space at 1and1.

I don't believe freesql.org allows you to use your free database for any type of forums. (the page wont fully load for me right now so i can't double check :P)
