Can I use any Linux shared hosting plan for e-commerce if it has a shared SSL certificate and I install merchant software and get a merchant account? Obviously the hosting account would need to support the merchant software's system requirements (PHP, MySQL, or whatever). I'm not familiar with how shared SSL is setup and am wondering if that would cause a problem. Is this something that is done a lot? Do web hosts generally allow this? Is there anything else I need or any other hosting requirements needed, such as protected directories? Thanks.

It has to have its own IP for SSL. Not a shared nameserver...

If the server has a server-wide shared certificate then yes, you'll have no problem. I'd suggest for the sake of professionalism you look at getting a secure certificate for your actual domain though. You'll find customers will gain a better sense of trust before parting with their details if they see your name in the cert itself.

I think your own SSL cert is a "nice-to-have" but not at all necessary from the start. A shared cert is fine. I just don't think the majority of online shoppers recognize the difference between a shared cert and your own. Plus, so many sites use 3rd party payment systems anyway so it's very common to see another name on the cart/payment screen.
SSL Certificate is more than good enough.
I feel SSL is not only enough more than that.....
Will there is anything more than "SSH" needed??!!

Did you like to mean anything??!!

But still in my view "SSH" is more than enough......

Have a nice day.......
