Hi
I am settting up a new website, actually for my Dad's company, and i signed up to the best host we could find, the only problem we've had so far is a windows server was down for 3 or 4 minutes, but they gave us a free month's hosting for the inconvenience, does this sound dodgy? or good support? they SEEM very good, but i'm just wondering if anyone else has had any dealings with them, and had the same kind of thing, maybe it's me being paranoid, but doesn't giving a customer a free months hosting just for a server crash that lasted 3 minytes seem dodgy?
these fella's are @ http://www.interactive-hosting.com, we got the Platinum Windows plan, and we're just wondering whether we should move companies? or stick with them..

May I ask what domain you have with them? I am asking because lately its been very hard to add credibility to anything posted these days without any evidence. =)
Sirus
Not that i can see the relevance of it, the domains we have at the moment are verbaltheory.net, which is a general chat forum, pretty much about anything and everything, and also x-rated-world.com, again, a new forum with adult related content, neither are publicised yet, because they've only been up a few days, but, i'm curious, why does my post have no credibility?

I came on here to ask a simple question, and have my credibility brought into question? it's just a topic on a frigging forum, how can someone have, or not have credibility from it? it's not like i was asking who shot JFK, jeez... (elvis shot him by the way)

Anyways, check out the forums, and ya never know, you might even like em.......... i doubt it, but you might

Hi Sirus,
Welcome to the WHD forums.
I havent actually checked this site out but it sounds as though theyve been more than generous with an offer for a free month due to the problems you experienced. Hopefully they carry a money back guarantee? That should give you some time to judge the performance of their services.
Good Luck

Well I think the idea behind northwinds post is that several times hosts have been known to sign up with various forums, make a post regarding their new found host, and in turn it actually turned out to be the host posting about their own services...so there ya have it :-))

Sirus please do not take it personally. Its just recently a lot and I mean a lot of hosting companies having been taking the road as far as signing up on a forum and pretending to be a customer or soon to be customer.

I had my doubts as I have never ran into a host where they would give you a month free for 3 minutes of downtime.

Again please do not take it personally. I just like to make sure everything is valid.
Nw-Allwin
I agree with Phillip on this one. If you got a free month, boy you sure have found a swell hosting company there and shouldn't move ever.

3 minutes of downtime is hardly traceable. It could be a network issue, connectivity issue, server reboot...etc etc.. and a host providing a free month for going down for 3 minutes is GOOD

Do they have a 100% uptime guarantee ? Personally, it sounds flaky, but yes, can't argue with a customer
I, Brian
Yes, a couple of minutes downtime is nothing, really. Suprised they gave you a free month for that. Was it actually down for longer??

As for cynicism - he's maybe been in WHT too long. Besides, there's a glut of hosting companies working in a flooded market, so posting affiliate links in hosting forums has become a tactic for some. That's why a link is always nice. Also, it means a trace can be run on the host to see how long they've been running, ping tests, etc, and thus give better comment on them.

Maybe. Well its not just WHT, its just a tactic a lot of hosts have been using lately so its always good to make sure. =)

Sirus: those domains that you posted are very significant in members being able to assist you in finding a web host. The adult content site (x-rated-world.com) will be an issue with many hosts that are recommended as good hosts. Your other site (verbaltheory.net) seems like a typical site that could be hosted with any good reputable web host.

As for Interactive-Hosting.com, their main page is not complete. They appear to have been in business for 8 months and are based in Canada.

It appears that the owner with nick IHSL has posted at webhostingtalk.com looking for customer service and support staff. Apparently some are gone.

How is the service there anyway?
Sirus
Thanks for the replies, and sorry if i "went off on one" but i thought someone was questioning my post..
to answer a few questions: they seem to be fine, and we haven't had any downtime since that one i said about, i think the reason they gave me a free months hosting was becase i was doing a mySQL dump at the time, and thought i'd messed something up, cos it brought up a page cannot be displayed, so i called em wondering wtf was going on, lol.

intellec: the service seems to be pretty good, i haven't had much to moan about, the only thing that i've found a touch annoying so far is the lack of advanced support for the osCommerce shopping system i'm setting up, they reffered me to the oscommerce site and said i'd find everything i needed on that site...

Nw-Allwin: no, they have a 99.9% uptime, which is close i guess... do a lot of hosts have 100%?

With the website thing.. that did piss me off, they gave me an alternative link to login for a day, which i then had to give to the 3 other guys that work on the sites with me, cos they said they where changing the look of the site, it looks complete now though i think... lol
We're gonna stick with them for now though, cos as someone said, we can use our free month to evaluate em, for no cost, so it's no skin off my nose if they end up sucking, lol
