Hi everyone, i would like to get involve in a reseller program. i like Venture's program inparticular. Can anyone suggest a good software, (preferably template style, my HTML is limited. ) for building websites? also i'm interested in designing logos as well, is there any software available for this? Finally, i'm located in Connecticut, do i need to register as a business at my local city hall? please excuse my ignorance. thanks much in advance. eric75.

Eric,

You can't really go past learning html to get a good handle on making sites. Even using a WYSIWYG program like Dreamweaver there are times you need to get into the code and manually do things. Having said that, the afore mentioned Dreamweaver from Macromedia is probably you best bet for a quality program to make sites. It's not the cheapest, but it's the best for sure.

Logos and graphics are another thing. I use Photoshop myself, but that's out of a lot of people's range budget wise. You should look at Fireworks (again from Macromedia), or Paintshop Pro from JASC. If you're feeling experimental you could look up 'The Gimp' which promises to be as good as Photoshop. It's a beta though so expect some crashes and odd problems with it occasionally.

For something particularly logo orientated, Ulead or Xara's software products may of use to you. They are very affordable budget choices, and in most cases it's just a matter of poking a few buttons. Personally I find the results a little too 'warez site' looking for my tastes.

Expanding on the above, there's much more to building a site than just HTML. Depends of course on the site complexit but there are things like JavaScript, Perl scripts CGI's, SSI, forms email etc.

And if you're going to reseller you'll need to be at least conversant with all.

i understand that getting into this business wouldn't be overnight.
There is definately some homework to do. i'm learning.
Did you guys had to have your site registered as a business in your city?
Greg, thank you very much for the info is very helpful.
Jaiem thank you also.

Hi Eric,
Welcome!
Just a few suggestions
Make sure you check out several options when looking for a reseller plan. Too often I think, people jump quickly without checking all areas out. Look for a company that will be able to support you, IF the need comes up. Here are a few links that you may just want to check out for info
These are mainly just hosts that offer reseller plans

Check out the www.recellar.com site for more detailed info geared for resellers.

I ran across a good resource recently and added it at my site..its the first one listed w3school.com or something. They have nice easy tutorials with examples.

Lastly about the business registration. Every state in the US is different regarding this..check with your local area about it.
Normally to even open a checking account at the bank, you have to register the biz., usually at the county clerks office. Again, check your area.

Hope this helps
James
