I'm new at web-hosting and I've been looking around and would be greatly appreciative if I can get some help. My site is no bigger than 2mb.... I'd liek to have about up to 10mb of space... Also I get about 5000 visitors per month and I have lots of graphics and stuff... So I'd like High Bandwidth to be on the safe side... Right now I'm usign this 5mb space I get with my ISP.... I want to have a perm web page for my page.. rather this redirection I have right now.... $$ is a big deal... I saw this ite... www.hostica.com has anyone dealt with this before? What sutff should I worry about then looking for web-hosts? Thanx
GregS
Well, you should never go with a host that offers the dreaded "unlimited bandwidth", because there is no such thing, and they decide on the real limit but don't tell you.

Here is their terms for bandwidth (they actually call it "BADWIDTH"!)

http://www.hostica.com/terms.html

It basically states that they don't limit the bandwidth, but might decide to limit you some day when your site gets popular.

Look at hosts that actually state the limits of the resources your going to be using, there are many you will be happy with.

Thanx for some help... You have any suggestions for a good host? that hostica place is $50 for a yr... to me that seems like a great deal... the way i'm looking at it right now.. that that my site isnt that awesome or anything by far... its sort of a hobby.... so i'm willing to tkae a lil risk to save $$.... so any good hosts drop a line....
thanx

Gator,

This is going to sound like a sell I know but sometimes when you start out, it's best to get yourself hosted by a quality service as soon as possible. While cheap hosts are attractive, they're also a minefield for the unwary. People more experienced with dealing with hosting companies can usually man-handle these guys into providing what they claim to, while for a small additional outlay you'll usually find the people running the business will take a more personal approach to you and your site, offering help and support often above and beyond what is considered the 'minimum' they are obliged to.

In my opinion is people are happy fighting their hosts day in and day out over problems that never get fixed so they can save a few bucks here and there, then more power to them. Were it me, I'd rather pay the extra and have a polite, thought out response to any problem I had.

While I'm sure there are bargain basement hosts that do provide good support, it's going to be a rare find.

I agree with Greg. A poor/cheap host will cause you no end of troubles that you don't need when starting out. And transfering while definately possible is also a pain.

Hi MyGatorWorld!

Thats going to be a tough decesion. There are plenty of great hosts who can offer smaller packages!
You can enter certain criteria here
http://www.webhostdir.com/hostsearch/

It will bring back some suggestions based on what you enter for the search.
I would suggest a host that offers a control panel (and most do now!)
They are so easy and efficient to use you wonder what we ever did without them..

Welcome to the forums...by the way. We are a pretty nice community here, and growing nicely, with good forum discussion.

I can't recommend anyone as such but the moderators have been very helpful here so you can be assured that their support would be good. Have you had a look to see if they have a plan to suit you?

I didn't understand it either, it seems that English is not their best language.

This page appears to display the current status of their systems and highlights any problems they are experiencing. Looks like the message changes all the time so I'm not sure that the message was at the time.

At the moment, they are claiming that traffic from the UK is affected by their main telephone company over their - BT. Hey, do you remember AT&T before the baby Bells ? Well that's BT in Great Britain today
