This information is probably readily available somewhere, but I have been unable to find a defined answer.
I have a website for our non-profit arts center on geocities. I would like to keep using geocities, but would like to buy a domain name that is very memorable like artscenter.com. how do I link the existing geocities site to a .com domain? I want to make sure I don't buy the domain and then find out I have missed an important element somewhere.
Thanks,
Susan

Is there a specific feature of Geocities that you like? For your case, I would recommend that you go out and find real web space.
You can probably find something low-cost or even donated as you are a non-profit. Check with your local companies, we sponsor a lot of local non-profits to help with getting attention locally. I'm sure you can find a local web hosting firm that will sponsor your site and might even provide the domain name free of charge, all of this in return for a bit of advertising under your "Thanks for our sponsors" list on your brochures/website/mailings/etc...

Greetings,
I agree to RefCom, I would recommend you finding a regular host. All you will have to do is transfer files from Geo-Cities to your host. Most of the host will assist you in that process.
Good Luck,

Hi,
You can do this if you choose buy a domain from a company that provides http forwarding.
Check out my site
http://www.mirical.co.uk for a rundown on what I use. You can point your domain at any site, and users will only see your domain name in their browser's url window - not the geocities name.
Hope this helps

I think you need to sign up for "geocities pro" or look for some $3 per month hosting from cheap hosting providers
how much bandwidth do you intend to use per month?
depending on that I can set you up in my own server for free as long as you display a small "hosted by" link in all your pages
