I'm planning to purchase a "sweet dreams" hosting plan on DREAMHOST( http://www.dreamhost.com/shared/comparison.html ), and I would like to get opinions/feelings from people who are using this hosting company.

Epinions lists twelve customers of Dream Host with reviews. Only that opinions posted in the last six months are really relevant, as young companies can change a lot on a year to year basis.

I have been using Dreamhost for several months now. I have been very satisfied. I think they are great.
A few good aspects:
1. Their support is EXTREMELY responsive and helpful. They answer e-mail within a matter of a few hours. They even installed updated software for me in a matter of a couple hours.
2. Open source base: They use Debian GNU/Linux which lends stability, upgradability, and the peace of mind from supporting free software.
3. Best online documentation around. Their knowlege base documents more about their service than I have seen from any hosting company.
4. Affordable. Their prices are less than a lot of the bigger companies and they guarantee that they will never increase their rates for the same service.
Go for it!

I have been with Dreamhost for about 2 years.
I agree with all your points except about their support.
In a word. It sucks.
We lost email this week for 12 hours straight.
Even though they were inundated with support email,
no one fixed it until one of their support people wandered into the forums and saw all the complaining about the problem.
No emails explaining what happened, just excuses and apologies.
Virtual host went down for over 4 hours one day last week.
No explanation.
Last night they moved their data center to a new building and were scheduled to have it completed by 4am.
As of 6:00pm their MySQL server was still down.
No explanations. No fix. Yet.
I suppose if we all wait long enought they might fix it.
I can no longer recommend Dreamhost.
Nice people, but positively AWFUL service and support.

Well hopefully they are having "temporary" problems and will be able to sort it out.
I dont ever recall hearing too much negative feedback (if any)

Thats so true Martie, I've known of them for three years now and I'm sure they existed a fair bit before that. On the Internet thats an old established company.
