I was looking at a host called Unlimited Hosting Plans. Has anyone heard news about them? There surface prices seems to be good but then you've got to pay extra for your frontpage extensions and even pay extra for your control panel. I have to wonder how good this company is..opinions are welcome.

If the word "Unlimited" in their title has anything to do with unlimited disk space and/or bandwidth, run away and don't look back. There is no such thing as unlimited space/bandwidth and anyone who claims to offer it is running a scam.

I have to agree with Rev. There is no such thing as Unlimited space and/ or bandwidth. (If thats what they are offering) You should not have to pay extra for a Frontpage extensions and especially a control panel. A good host will have these included as standard. If you post there URL, we can give you some further information Zedina.

Unfortunately I didn't run away...I signed up and then wondered what the #@$%% I had gotten myself into. The pages seemed professional enough and according to their webpage they recommendations for web directories (including Webhost). Its ironic that the reason I found Webhost is that it was included on one of their recommendation pages. I feel sort of silly now

I've already started the process of looking for another provider, one with no "hidden" fees. They're not really hidden per se but you shouldn't have to pay extra for them. I went to their help forum and there were hardly any posts there..are they really that good that no one has problems or are they just that new? Here is the url, thanks for the feedback so far.

Hi Zedina,
Welcome to the forums
I havent checked the site out BUT I would really have to agree with Rev.
Its been a cheap marketing ploy for years, using the term unlimited to draw customers in.
There are too many GOOD solid, reliable hosts out there that offer nice plans for a reasonable price.
The name itself puts up the red flag! MOST providers offer plenty of features INCLUDED in their hosting plans as well.

Well, they happen to be Fasthosts resellers. However, I have browsed there site and terms and conditions and they have a 30 day money back policy, so if you are not happy with them, you still have a right to cancel and obtain a refund. (If you have not done so already)
Fasthosts charge extra for control panels, Frontpage extentions, msSQL/ mySQL databases and thus, so will there resellers.

Ah, I see. Well, I went to cancel my account and found that the upgrades are non-refundable. Since they charge very little for their hosting and charge quite a bit in upgrades, I think this is where they make their money. The only thing they refund is the cost of the hosting plan itself. This has been a very expensive and embarassing lesson for me.

Thanks to all that have been giving me info

Maybe before signing up for an account, ask them if they have there own dedicated server or they are resellers. If they are resellers, ask them who they have there reseller account with. Some resellers are very good and others are not. Good luck

I didn;t read all the posts but this is my opinion of unlimited hosts. Each server has a limit. Each cluster has a limit. Each network has a limit. There is no such thing as no limit. I'd like to find an unlimited host and just toss on a few terabytes of garbage.
Unlimited bah humbug. This probably isn't the best business practice but when customers ask about unlimited resources I refer them to our dedicated server even though they were asking about our cheapest most basiuc hosting package. Really and truthfully you could probably sucessfully market unlimited plans. I mean just from experience I know that even the most resource greedy customer on my network hasn't hogged more than 20 GB a month yet. Most don't even exceed 1 gb.
I just don't want to end up with a customer base of resource hogs getting costly bandwidth and server space for peanuts.

"Unlimited" is based on the assumption that most hosting customers only use a mere fraction of the total resources that comes with their account. So if you're given "unlimited" storage, few people will actually try to upload hundreds of megs. Or "unlimited" email accounts, few will create hundreds or throusands.
The problem is 1) It's deceptive, and therefore 2) sooner or later someone
will push the limits and the host will have to confront the customer with the limit even though they first said "unlimited".
There's no free lunch.

Take a look at
www.unlimiband.com – they have a nice little article about unlimited bandwidth. Don’t forget to add that host to the unlimited host list.
