I am new to the hosting scene and have offered to help out an 8th grader with a web hosting project. I have been all over the internet and seem to come up with the same sites for help. We need specific instructions on how to build a web site from the ground up. If anyone knows of any sites that contain instructions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ideally you'll be wanting to look for the html sections of those sites and the tutorials mentioned.

At the end of the day though there isn't really a magic bullet for this one. Just like learning any language it takes time. He could just WYSIWYG it I suppose, but it doesn't sound like that's what you're looking for.

Just a thought. Is it design theory he's looking for, or practical texts?

I'd say the best would be to hope to the local library and grab a good book. I personally hate reading off the web. Websites tend to have too many other links that take you off the tangent whereas books are more targetted and quite rewarding if you pick the right one for your skill level.

A word of caution though - Understanding the techology is only one tenth the way there, putting together a design and having the time and perserverance to finish it is where most newbies fail.

And don't forget the Holy Grail - Marketing!

You have the greatest website ever but if people don't come (and buy if it's an e-commerce site) then it doesn't matter.
