Hi all,
I ran across this at transinc.com and was wondering what it means and is it good in this case? ( I do know what a T1 is)
Super fast connections
Network Connectivity 5-DS3, 10-T1 and 1-OC3
What should I be looking for in the hosts internet connections?
Thanks,
Steve

hmm... i would NOT trust them... they are using a direct nic frame-based redirection service for their own site... any host that does something like that people should be suspicious of... hmm... and the IP its loading is running off cihost, which is known for its high profile downtime... and loss of client data (CC info)... and possibly 'bribing' out hosting review sites (i in no way think thats the case with this site, period)... i come to that conclusion based on the fact that it was #1 on numerous hosting review sites even after the tens of thousands of customer complaints poured in regarding prolonged downtimes (week+) and client data loss...
additionally... transinc.com... claims they own their own datacenter... cute that their datacenters are named the same as cihost's... heh

thecoolh,
English please?
You know them already?

sorry steve... what part was i not clear about? hehe
sirvodka
I can't imagine you got all that info out of the message I posted. Although I didn't understand much of what you said I do understand cihost. That part is perfectly clear. To the recycle bin they go. I am curious though, what do I look for in the internet connections? I remember one site saying OC-48? Does that make sense?
Thanks,
Steve

heh... i *live* the 'net... n hosting... its been a full-time life for me for the last 2-3 years... heh...
OC48 = good... but one thing that ppl gotta remember is... a lot of these high b/w feeds are burstable... just havin' an OC48 doesn't mean the company can afford to even use 1% of that feed... so if they accidentally sign on a client for a month that uses too much n refuses to pay (it does happen, a lot)... a smaller host can go under... (with the margins now adays, can happen)... and now-adays... these burstable feeds ain't that expensive... its the usage on them thats an arm n a leg... heh

I would presume thecoolh did some digging through WHOIS records and traceroutes etc to get back to this hosts source (in this case as a cihost reseller). I should mention that the rest of his post should probably be taken with a grain of salt as it has very little to do with the host themselves - rather his opinion on cihost's business practises regarding paid advertising, which many people would probably agree with.
From what I can gather on the datacenter (cihost's as it turns out - I haven't checked into it myself) it's fine. After Xmas 1999 they appear to have had fair to good connectivity. Their servers themselves seem to develop issues however, while their billing department seems to get things wrong here and there.
Would I use them? Not in a blue fit. It's not neccessarily true that transinc would make a bad host, though claiming a datacenter as theirs is a little suspect. Being a reseller is a hard cross to bear at times though and some of them do take liberties with the truth at times.

I appreciate your input. I think I have narrowed my selections to the following although I still have some research to do. Any feedback on these would be appreciated.
M6.net, ValueWeb, Hostway, Bluedomino, ApolloHosting, Pair
thecoolh
pair... oldest and most trusted amongst the hosts you mentioned... bit on the expensive side
sirvodka
Yeah, I was kind of leaning towards Pair Networks. Seems like they do have a pretty good reputation. Price is not really a problem. I plan to spend $30 - $50/month for the service. It's humorous to read some posts on this and other forums where people are asking for "it all" for $2.95/month with free setup, domain registration, unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwith, etc. etc.. But I guess if people are happy with what they get then more power to them. Sorry, I'm not trying to put anybody down but I've always been a believer in "you get what you pay for". Doesn't matter what product or service it is. I'm looking for reliability and support 1st. Of course, what's available in the package counts too!
One thing I am curious about. After searching numerous forums for advice I sure do see a lot of complaint threads about various hosts. A lot more complaints than compliments and when there is a compliment it's usually within a thread that was originated by a complaint. Why don't more people post their good experiences with web hosting? There has to be a lot of satisfied customers out there!!!

cuz nobody notices their host until something goes wrong...
