Hi.
We currently have a dedicated server at uk2.net. We have had problems with the server going down frequently, and mysql bugging. This was today topped by them wiping our server clean when they were supposed to restart mysql, and we have lost all our data. Only an old backup from February is left, and this is our own backup, because UK2 don't have any. Do you know if UK2 is a renowned serverprovider, or maybe they're just not seriouse?
We are going to change server anyway, but just want to know if we were unlucky, or if they have a history. Is it hard to get the money back from them, as they have made a mistake? We've paid for 1 year (February), and have only had bad experiences.
What we need now is a dedicated server that we can get up and running asap, so we can start building our website again, and get it online. The server we have at UK2 is the x-large server, with 2x Intel Xeon Dual Core 3.0GHz RAID, 2048MB Kingston RAM, 2x250GB SATA RAID-1 HDD. I'm not sure what we need exactly, but we are running a poker community with 8k registered members, and 1,5k daily unique visitors, with all normal community elements as forum, blogging, profile, articles, reviews, news etc, and with video/picture uploading and streaming, We need a reliable server that don't go down often, is fast and smooth, and even more important: are monitored. That meaning if it's going down, they have a system for detecting this and do what's necesary to get it up and running again. After our last experience with uk2 we also need some sort of backup.
Do you have any thoughts or recomandations about who to choose? We are thinking about Xcalibre, since they won the last dedicated server test on webhostdir. What do you think?
Thanks

I don't think that dedicated is the best way to go, he may try serverpoint.com
VPS plans to start with, they offer both Cpanel and Plesk to choose from for their VPS plans.
However, they have this system of different support levels, so you have to see what's included in the support level you have in the package.

Hi
You said you have a dedicated server with uk2, you lost your data then said UK2 did not back your dataup, I think you will find with dedicated hosting you will need to backup your own data, I recommend next time to schedule regular backups to backup your data to ie a offiste backup drive.
