Okay, this had been bugging me for a couple of years, but here goes: Is anyone else as SICK to DEATH as I am of web hosting companies that SPAM our various snail-mail addresses, including post office boxes and even our homes?

The worst offender by FAR from my experience is Interland, followed closely by Valueweb. Also, while not exactly hosting companies, Register.com and DELL belong on the "Snail-Mail SPAMMERS" list as well, as far as I'm concerned, due to the garbage they continue to dump into my postal mailboxes.

These are companies whose services I would NEVER EVER use, nor would I purchase their products.

Anyone else have hosts or related companies or services to add to the list of SPAMMERS-by-Postal-Service?

Hehehe....since when did snail-mail change from "junk mail" to "spam"?

Please go ahead and sue Dell, Register.com et al for millions in damages. It's like I always said: If email spam is going to be punishable by huge fines and court cases so should postal mail.

Good luck.

I never said anything about suing anyone!! I was just venting a little about the "junk mail" which is (to me) every bit as annoying, if not more so, than email spam.

Spam is Spam is Spam, and it ALL sucks.

LOL CosmicD..Im sure Jaiem was joking when saying that
I do agree with you though.....YES, Im sick of all the snail mail junk that I certainly get daily....its very annoying....reminds me of just one I got from Interland a year or so ago about the free Volkswagon they were giving away......hummm, I wonder if anyone ever won it, I sure didnt hear if they did.
Think of the MONEY these companies spend on that type marketing

Yeah, I know, I was just venting...I'm usually a calm and cool person, but lately the volume of "junk mail" I have gotten from the companies mentioned above has gotten to the point that I closed my P.O. Box recently. I've gotten really ticked about it...sorry about that.

Of course many of the junk mailers just find me at home now. Also, I run a website for a 75 year old lady, and since she is the domain owner, she gets a ton of junk mail too... last night I had to drive to her house at 10 PM just to help her straighten things out after she almost sent a check to Register.com to transfer her domain away to them! To her, the official-looking "domain notice" from Register.com made it appear that if she didn't send them a check right away, she'd lose her domain altogether! I asked her to PLEASE let me look at everything that comes in her mail that is internet-related. What a royal pain!

Not to mention the daily phone calls from hosts and registrars...I never pick up the phone anymore.

Sigh...I think I'll go consume some comfort food now!

Just pointing out the inconsistancies between some of the proposed anti-spam laws (at least in the U.S.) and direct snail-mail marketing. Who knows, it may yet come to a head over it.

Anyway, yea the junk mail does get to be a lot. But look at it like this - if you have a fire place or a wood burning stove you get fuel delivered for free!

I've never much objected to getting these things - saves a lot of time in keeping up with the competition (why visit their web site when they send me their post cards all the time - so much easier!) And, honestly, postcards don't bother me anyway.

But did anyone else get Interland's latest? Oh, my! They've apparently given up on postcards and are now sending out catalogs. I'm not kidding - I already threw it away, but it was something like 16 or 20 pages! Full-color! I almost died.

I can't imagine the amount of money they're throwing away.

Sheesh.

But I do think that direct postal mail definitely has it's place among legitimate marketing. I've been known to use it myself from time-to-time. But what companies like Interland are doing is pretty much over-kill.

I got their latest brochure/catalog
Shook my head as I tossed it in the trash too.
HostingCatalog
Lets not forget AOL and their 'free trial' setup disks.

AOL has to be among the biggest junk-mailers ever. Oh well, I have lots of cup coasters because of them now

That's true. Back when the world used 3.5 inch disks it was great to get free disks in the mail.

Back around '95 or so, Earthlink used to put two floppy diskettes on the cover of some computer magazines. That's how I first discovered them and installed it on my old Windows 3.1. But Netcom's package was much more integrated as I recall, bringing together email, an IRC client, and their very own nifty *cough* "Netcruiser" browser!

Ah, the good old daze.
