I just started a Web Hosting business. And i am wondering how to get paying clients. I am offering "free hosting plan" too, and i already have 10 sign ups for free hosting plan and non for payed plans ? How to increase convertion ratio ?

Typically you would want to offer free hosting services with VERY limited features, space, bandwitdh etc.. So that they would want to upgrade once they are a free member..

For example. dont offer fantastico to free members, dont offer the website page builder Limited support for FREE package etc..

make those feature for a paid member only. most free accoutns will go i want that so bad and buy it.

You basically have to find you "niche" in the market. Offer something to your customers that the other guys cant.

Think about advertising somewhere.

Creating a website and putting it online is one thing. Then the real job starts, promoting, promoting, promoting.

Promoting is definitely the big one. You can spend a lot on ppc or spend a lot of time promoting your site to different forums and other ares that people might have a need for web hosting.

I think you can add Pro service by offering extra services/features etc, this will be easy to shift your existing clients to paid service or to get a client those looking for paid service.

You can also try advertising with google adwords...they have good conversion rates

Sorry for hijacking thread... i just started a freehost (teamhost [dot] us) and I had 35 signups within first week.
I posted in like 3 forums. But most of the accounts are trash. Plus my host is starting to seem less reliable than I thought (problems with subdomain creation so I disabled signups for now)

I think the best way to start off if your poor like me if to post in some forums and be truthful in your posting.

But as a question,, if you use adwords does it bring in clients or just more traffic?

I guess if you offer opportunity your customers to grab their own package it will look very attractive.
