How is linux web hosting different from windows? Which one is better? and why?
toniya
Both have different platforms.
LINUX is better for me - more features, many options, easy to handle and comfortable.

Linux would be for basic hosting users. It's more easy, popular, and alot more control panels including the famouse panel cPanel, and also Plesk (windows enabled too).
Window's is for more of a programmers perspective for using ASP.NET and stuff of that nature, PHP is better of with linux.
Basically advanced programmers use windows, while linux is for everyone. :-)

yup.....windows hosting is for things like .NET sites and stuff....very specialised.....doesnt mean it cant be used for basic sites, but it turns out be expensive.

I tend to go this way..use Linux for most web hosting. It is onlyif you re using microsoft specific software like MS SQL, ACCESS that you should use Windows. Cold fusion can be usied on Linux, but 9 times out of 10 the host will only use the Wondows version and 9.9 times out of 10 the host will use IIS webserver meaning ASP applications...there is also VB stuff etc. OTHER than Frontpage...if you use any Microsoft development software, then you need to go Windows hosting. All else go for Linux.

Things to consider also.
The linux operating system handles data and computer reasources much more efficiantly than a typical windows platform. Windows computers yes are for much more specialized applications and yes are more expensive, but tend to bog down more frequently than your typical linux platform.
I would say both are great systems, i personally prefer the linux platform, but it really comes down to what types of applications, software would you be running on the server.
Hope this helped.

linux has always been over windows in what servers are concerned. Linux is more stable, safe and it offers more options to people running servers.
