be more specific, if you are thinking about opening a webhosting in a reseller account, i think that for that host, like $20 per month is sufficient. But it depends of what you want if you are opening a big company, you should try VPS hosting, but you will need more than $45 per month i think.

Hi,

You should first maybe start with a VPS but look for a decent company who can allow you to swap with them to dedicated when the time comes.

Thanks

If you start with reseller hosting plans, I don't think you will need much money to start it. Try to search reseller hosting plans..

If your new to web hosting i would definatly recommend starting with a vps, resell on someone elses compter, those typically start around 30 - 60 dollars depending one what your looking for in space bandwidth and features.

Thats not to bad for a start and it only requires you to have a few clients to cover your costs.. I would recommend you stay with that VPS server untill you are Literally out of space or nearing your limits, dont rush into a DEDICATED for you will find it much more expensive, much more time consuming, and that if you rush to it to soon that you will have no budget for a marketing campaign which is VERY important in hosting.

However once your up and read yto move onto your own servers those will start around 100 just for the server, plus any service or maintenece plans or support / tech plans which i would recommend since it is alot harder to travel to your server incase a hardrive fails, find a company that supports there dedicated servers, and will be able to swap drives if they fail for you..

Servers will run about the same vps or dedicated the only differnce is one is yours the the VPS is usually on another computer with other clients on it.

Let me know if this helped.

IMO, I recommend you to use Reseller Hosting first.
Managing Reseller Hosting is a lot easier than VPS.
Reseller Hosting also cheaper than VPS thus can be a good choice for you to test the water of the hosting business.

Hi,

You can go with the reseller hosting, as the start up and also it easy to manage than other hostings.

All The Best!!!

id say go with the VPS. if you already have multiple websites yourself, then that would be perfect for you.

why go with a reseller host where you are paying a discounted price for your own hosting and reselling it to other people.

say you have 3 sites. ~$5 a month to host each one with a reseller. thats $15 out of your pocket a month. ive seen decent reseller hosting around $100-$120 a year so lets go with $10 a month for reseller hosting. your up to $25 a month, for your sites and the ability to resell hosting.

your charged say the $5 a month per site hosted, and you sell it at say $6.95 a month for hosting. you can maybe get 10 people to go to your host the first month (optimistic there too)

thats barely $20 to you, and your still out ~$5 a month.

with a vps, say you get a really low level one for $20 a month. (prolly gonna get it around $30)

now you have your own sites, and no limit to how many you can have. no more fees to make them. and you get a free hosting panel (vhcs is one i know of, dunno many others) and install it. your still out that $30 a month. but no more because your not charged for hosting. and im leaving out all domain fees.

say you get those same 10 people the first month. at a lowered rate of $3.49 a month. thats $34.90 in your pocket. minus $30 a month for the vps. you profit $4.90 with a lower rate.

my thoughts on it :P sorry about the long post.

Hi,
Start small by getting a reseller hosting service and sign up as a reseller with a domain registrar.
If things take off you can then get your own dedicated servers.

Wow! Sorry but you are thinking way too small... honestly do you believe you can run a successful business on $45 a month? Yeah sure you can get a Reseller or VPS hosting plan for that, but what about Marketing? Advertsing? Sales Staff? Accounts/ Billing Software?

I left my first company with a 50K golden goodbye and I spent over 30K getting myself and my new company through its first 2 years. I now have a stable and profitable business and my bank balance is starting to climb again. But if you are thinking about running a business on $45 a month then you are just playing at being a web host. I've invested 10K (Euros) in my hosting infrastructure & services this year alone.

If pickaweb wants to set-up a serious web hosting business, he'd better have 10K in the bank.
