As a potential reseller what options would I have in the likely event that:

Your reseller account goes down, taking all your clients sites and your very own site/support mechanism down too? Essentially because all my eggs are in the same basket!

Your clients cannot reach you because your site, email and everything else is obviously offline.

So what plans do you have in place in the event of such an embarassing situation?

There`s nothing worse for a client to find their site is down potentially for hours or more, then to find the actual company site down too.

Nice to be here by the way

Hi maritimer

The obvious answer to your question would be to possibly locate your own site with another company altogether. Then if your reseller was to suffer with downtime your customers would be able to contact you still.

It would be best to go with a good reseller with a good reputation of uptime. Many resellers may place your websites on different servers to each other. At least then if one server goes down only half of your customers or a percentage of your customers would be faced with the downtime.

Ask your company you chose to go with if websites are likely to be on different servers and what the SLA is with getting those servers back online.

Do a lot of research and don't just go with the cheapest with the most webspace etc.

Hope this has helped.

Then idea mentioned above has a lot of merit. Keeping all of your business with one host really does put you into a very dangerous situation of being out of touch with your customers when they need you most.

I think I'll look into moving our main site over to another provider now that my paranoid factor is up.

Thanks for asking the question. Really made me start thinking of the same strategy to stay in touch.

Well you could always mirror your website somewhere else and if things go down you could have the backup as the main so there won't be any downtime. Tho it's harder to do, especially if you have a dynamic website.

I know exactly what you mean. I first started off as a reseller but I upgraded to My own servers because after a while I realized that Having a reseller and trying to have a big hosting company was not going to cut it.
