Hello Guys.
I have not visited these forums in years I used to be a reseller when I was 17-18 ,back when network solutions was like only place to get domains $35 a year. There was few other places started to bounce up little cheaper then them. Some problems arised and I got out of the industry. I was just looking at local jobs and was a hosting company hiring and got me starting to think maybe I should get back into it. Just seems so many companies now and also domains like $1.99 a year and everything so cheap now is there really any money to be paid unless you have over 1,000 customers? Anyways I know you guys don't want another host around just trying get some input and hope everyone that has been here awhile are doing good best luck in your business.

IMO price war is everywhere, not only hosting biz.
fact is, those that provide good services & product, will keep their customer, and their price will sustain.

the more the better, at least now we have "consumer market" and customers have lots of options to choose from, another question that it is a challenge to find a reputable web hosting company, but this is totally another story

If you ahve a good business plan, and stay honest with your clients, give good support, and good products, you can make some money. It is not a get rich quick, and you also do not have to be the cheapest hosting company out there. People will try the $5/year host with unlimited disk space and transfer, and then they will leave...
Good luck!

I honestly believe there is money to be made here, but it is going to be a long process. I would suggest you find a niche, usually your local market. I have quite a few local clients and they are the most loyal. We have just now started branching to the national market and wow is the competition tough. But we are maintaining our same values we had in the beginning (fast and friendly support, treating everyone like an indivudual and not a number? and I am hoping that will win us some supporters nationally and/or globally.

I think even new companies can become successful even today among other giants. But they should offer something that beats other competitions, for example, when web hoasting companies nowadays offer around 20GB space and around 1000GB monthly transfer, the options that once were really not imaginable, well, new hosting providers should offer more and more resources to spread the name.

I don't agree with this. The more and more resources you offer, the less profit you make hence the more chance of your business going under. If you did make a profit your servers would be overloaded. How many hosts do you know of that actually allow you to use all your resources in those mega plans? Honestly, I think the way to really get your name out there is to offer exceptional support and quality products. You may cost more, but those clients you do get will be more than happy to share their success stories.

I, like some others totally disagree with that statement too. The above statement is just false. Offer more to spread the name? Well most likely if one followed that advice you could get your name out there quickly (or spread the name as you put it) BUT its probably going to bad feedback down the road.

I completely disagree with that thinking! There's already too many people with the overselling logic, the industry certainly doesn't need another.
If you want to start a hosting company (or any company for that matter) you need to research your compitition and the industry in general. Then decide on what you want for your niche market and offer something different. Or at least make your company stand out in your niche somehow. Excellent customer support, good, solid network and services, good solid Resonably Priced plans are just a few for starters. If your just starting off, start locally. Try and get together with web designers and businesses in your area and work together. (You send them design customers, they send you hosting customers, etc.). Don't go the overselling route, you'll loose.
