Hi there. I am wanting to start a discussion board. Currently, we have about 100 members and expect to grow. I would like to have our own domain name and use a BB like phpbb. Any suggestions? This is a non-profit group, also.

Sure....most any host will be able to support a discussion board. You just need to make sure they do support PHP, MySQL.

As far as domain registration, I would recommend you register your own domain name "first" and then choose a webhost. Somewhere like namecheap.com or godaddy.com

You need to send some potential hosts some pre-sales questions before signing up though!
Do a search on google.com for the company name and see what sort of feedback results.
webhostingtalk.com is also a place to check for feedback.....usually if there are major complaints on any web host you will find them posted at webhostingtalk!

I am running my own forum. I liked windows-based webhosting package of http://www.gohindi.com Service is super, package is cool and prices are very low

Like what Martie said, get a linux hosting with PHP and MySQl capabilities. These are the very minimum requirement.

I would suggest Godaddy.com to register your new domain and host somewhere else that fit best your need.

Best tip:
Look for linux hosting which host Cpanel and Fantastico because it has auto-installed script for PHPBB forum, so with few clicks the Cpanel will make your forum ready to use.

I love it...love it... Thank you to Cpanel and Fantastico...Awesome tools...

Just my two cents

You also have to promote the site.

Self promotion is not allowed. Please look over the forum rules before posting.

I would suggest going with a host that offers cpanel and fantastico. Fantastico is a great addon tool for cpanel and you can install a forum very quicly and easy. You can literally get a forum up in minutes. Hope this helps!

Any control panel will work!!!!

Just get a nice hosting plan, with plenty of bbandwidth... Space wont matter that much but having ya ton of people refreshing your site can build up bandwidth...

Agree, that's very important. You can start doing that in special sections of different forums.

In this regard, i would like to say, you could go in for high PR forums, this could help in search engine optimisation also.
