Members to finalize security standards for the next generation of web browsing with Extended Validation Certificates
XRamp Security Services, Inc., a leading provider of high quality digital certificates for online merchants and organizations, announced that they have been chosen to host the sixth International Certificate Authority (CA) Browser Forum in San Antonio, Texas on September 20 and 21. The closed meeting will include major players in the security and browser industry where the final guidelines will be determined regarding Extended Validation (EV) Certificates to secure Internet website commerce.
XRamp, along with other industry leaders, look towards EV Certificates to help prevent the growth of "phishing" which is the fraudulent attempt to acquire sensitive information such as passwords or credit card data by masquerading as a trustworthy entity. One possibility includes address bars of web browsers turning green when someone visits a secured site. XRamp continues to lead the way in research efforts to ensure that the Internet is secured for future generations of web users.
The guidelines describe the minimum requirements that a CA must meet in order to issue Extended Validation (EV) Certificates. Organization information from valid EV Certificates may be displayed in a special manner by browsers in order to provide users with a trustworthy confirmation of the identity of the entity that owns or controls the website they are accessing.
"For the past year XRamp has participated diligently with the CAB Forum in working on a standardized vetting process for CA's across the different web browsers," says Scott Harris, President of XRamp. "The group has made tremendous progress and we are optimistic that we are about to enter a new age of security which will help ensure a safe browsing experience and the continued growth of commerce on the Internet."
The CA/Browser Forum is a voluntary open organization of certificate authorities and vendors of Internet browser software and other applications. Membership includes companies such as RSA Security, VeriSign, Wells Fargo Bank, Network Solutions, Microsoft, Mozilla, Redhat and Nokia among others.
