The company I am starting needs a website that allows people to upload video to my server. My clients need to be able to upload any type of video file with no limit on how large of a file the video they upload to me can be. The uploaded video is not going to be broadcast or streamed anywhere, nor will it ever be sent back to the person who sent it. I am a beginner and have no idea what it takes to get this up and running so any info would be greaatly appreciated. If I am posting this in the wrong section of this forum I aplolgize and would someone please let me know where I should post a question of this sort. Thanks in advance.

What are the specs of your system? If you're going to be hosting a lot of media you are going to need substantial hard drive space.
Also, for implenenting the software side of this, what kind of operating system and control panel are you working with?

I reccomend using FTP. Get a registration script which will grant access to the FTP folder and then the files can be transfered using the browser. Video files tend to be large especially if it's high quality so it's going to be tough getting shared service which allows gigs of transfer across a browser though because there may be a limit on the server.

Uploading videos which file size more than 800MB are not recommended using shared hosting. Diskspace is not a big matter for the web hosting co. Bandwidth usage is more the concern.
For the long run, I highly recommend you to subscribe a dedicated server.
Good luck

I also recommend using FTP for this especially if you do not have many clients sending video. I might be a little harder to show them how to upload it at first, but it should be easier in the long run since FTP offers good upload status information and resume capabilities. Also, since you are the only person receiving the videos and they are not for the general public, a web site doesn't make as much sense as an FTP site.

I would also recommend using a dedicated hosting provider, they may cost a little more but generally the dedicated hosting will have performance gains you will want for using video.
