phising is on a rise tremendously,
what are the important ways to tackle them in any situation?

Phising is definatly my pet hate. I used to run a free web hosting service which has now been forced to close after 7 years, due to a dramatic increase in Phising websites, every day we were getting abuse reports from sites such as eBay, PayPal and MySpace, and our data provider even pulled the plug at one stage.

I think the best way to tackle it is for hosting providers to verify legititmate customers. We call the majority of our customers to confirm their order, if anything looks a little suspsious. Also, most phising sites are created by people using stolen or fraudulent credit cards, so if hosts have suffecent fraud prevention this can see a fall in the number of phising sites hosted.

At the end of the day though, these fraudsters will always find a way to get their rubbish online and give legitimate internet users one big headache!

I honestly hadn't seen a phishing attempt on my main email account (gmail) for a little over 6 months, then all of a sudden I was getting at least one a day. And these phising attempts were extremely blatant (Paypal user login request). I don't know if the phishers have been figuring out new techniques or if Google is just playing around with the algorithm, but I was frightened to realize that I actually gave the scam a moments thought, since I hadn't seen one in so long.

I'd hate to see what I would do if I went a few years without seeing a phishing attempt and then got one.

I think I'd almost rather have a steady stream of them, rather than one every once and a while, just to keep my immunity high
