If I don`t take domain name, Can I edit & view my site with hosting IP Number?
Mr Chunder
If your IP address is totally uniquely allocated to you then you can view and access your site without a domain name.

However, some shared hosts put all their sites under a single IP address - easier to manage and in this case, it would not work.

Ask your host if you have a unique IP address to yourself or if they are shared.

Often you can use your IP to access your site, especially in the "wait time" between registering a new name or transfering a domain. But once the name is setup you should use the name instead. If the host changes the IP you're stuck.

Agreed to the above, but the short answer is yes.

I've done a few sites for people on accounts that don't have a domain pointed at them yet. They want to see it running before they change the nameservers over, so I go in via IP address and set up and tinker. E-mail won't work, nor will secure certs, but most other things work just fine under IP.

But as Mr Chunder said, that's assuming your host gives you a unique IP address and doesn't just use name based accounts.

Yes, this is possible and in fact this is the way it used to be. Now ICANN wants to stop using IP numbers because there is only a certain amount that can exist on the internet. Once they are gone no one else would able to get one. The equation is 255x255x255x255 = and that's it! No more...

Therefore, ICAN requested of all hosting companies to use header hosting and use one IP number per server instead of 150 to 200 on each server. Ip numbers now require paper work and justification on why you need them. Most hosting companies buy them by the C block. One - block per t-1 line. Resellers can only get them from their host provider.

When you own your own network and have multiple lines to the backbone you have opportunity to get all the IP numbers you will ever need. That's why we can provide them for You.

If your host can not provide you a dedicated IP number, let that be a red flag. This means they are not what they claim to be and you should avoid them like you would anthrax.

Always do a trace route to any hosting company and you'll find how far the are removed from the backbone. Each hop is costing you money. Each hop is another reseller you are paying as a middle man. The further away you are the less opportunity you have of getting an IP number.

Because of this new rule by ICANN many large hosting companies can not afford to change their format and the cost of reconfiguring all their servers and website is astronomical. Therefore, it will not be long before they fold and they will fold. Needless to say the big boys are fighting this but they will not win, the best they can hope for is delaying the implementation.

They had no foresight when they planned their networks and soon it will catch up with them. The more you know the better we look!

therog, how about the rollout the IPv6? There are very many more IP numbers and blocks on the newer IP version........if they implement that, it would solve the problem too, no?
