Hi,
I'm rather desperately looking for a web host and wondered if anyone could recommend a few to look at based on my requirements? It seems like i've been everywhere now but still haven't come across what I'm after.
If we stick with shared hosting we have the following requirements:
150GB bandwidth (data transfer) per month or more (currently using 100GB)
15GB storage or more (currently using 7GB)
PHP/MySQL/SSI
multiple FTP accounts
protected directories
(there may be more but i can't think atm)
absolute max price inc VAT: £23 per month (around $40)
If we go for a dedicated server, we have a higher budget, but it needs to include our audio streaming, that is unless dedicated servers can be found for our site's budget of £23 a month:
1TB bandwidth minimum (preferably 1.5TB)
100MBPS connection (10 may be useable but would need a trial)
Windows Server 2003 Standard
Remote Desktop Administrator access
absolute max price inc VAT: £50 per month (around $110)
At present I think the best solution would be hosting our site seperate from our audio streaming, meaning a budget of £23 a month, but whether this is on a shared hosting package or VPS I don't mind, provided we can find a reliable host to meet the top list of requirements above (150GB bandwidth etc).

It depends on what you use for your bandwidth. If you are using lots of bandwidth and CPU resources, then shared hosting is not suitable for you. VPS is perhaps your option, but since you are sharing also CPU and memory, then sometimes the web admin will ask you to move to a dedicated if you are still dominantly taking all the resources.
Dedicated server will give its resources to only you. You can do whatever you want as long as the server can handle. The hosting company will not bother you since you are not affecting other clients.
Just my two cents =)

VPS is the best way to go in almost every case.

If I were you I would get a VPS from LiquidWeb. A dedicated server would be great but don't expect anything under $200/month

if you have the money, then I would go with dedicated.

Your requirements sounds perfect for a VPS. $40 sounds less for a good configuration. Make sure that you get atleast 512 mb assured RAM. may be somethign unmanaged like godaddy would fit your budget.

I like rackspace.com they have pretty good rates for dedicated hosting but I think their storage may be a little smaller than you are looking for.

You can go with the dedicated hosting. Its benefitable in one case that you can use thet resources and cannot have any interruptions like when you shared hosting etc.
But for the dedicated hosting the budget would be raised.
