Hi,
Our small company is thinking about bringing the hosting of our website on site in our office. I want to know what the benefits and requirements would be . Is it a good idea? and why?
Thank you,
Joanna

You'll have more control over the server and what you want to do (don't need to worry about TOS and such).

OTOH, you also have all the issues of running a server and a network connection.

Well there's a few reasons why you might consider not doing it. As it's only one site many of the usual contraints will be lifted. (other users taking up too much of the line etc). However, to set up correctly with a fast line, powerback ups etc may be pretty pricey compared to general hosting. Just remember the net is online 24 hours a day, 365 a year. Downtime for your site is lost sales (possibly). Local line traffic may play a part too to how fast people are able to access your site.

There's no reason you *can't* host from your own server, but there's a far bit of up front costs to make it perform as well as a website hosted inside a large network operation center.

I think if you need that much control and autonomy, and can afford the costs akashik spoke of, go for it!
