GOAL is an international humanitarian agency dedicated to the alleviation of the suffering of the poorest of the poor.

GOAL works towards ensuring that the most vulnerable in our world and those affected by humanitarian crises have access to the fundamental needs and rights of life, i.e. food, water, shelter, medical attention and primary education.

Since its inception GOAL has sent 1,100 volunteers to work in the developing world, alongside more than 2,000 local staff and spent over €350 million on the delivery of aid.

Many of us use the Internet on a regular basis, and we are increasingly content to transact online, be it banking, shopping, booking holidays, or even making charitable donations. However, cutting costs is not the only advantage to fundraising online. GOAL can hope to achieve a higher visibility for their organisation, by acquiring a worldwide audience and building relationships with their supporters.

In a recent survey carried out by JustGiving it was discovered that people tend to make larger donations online, via credit and debit cards, then they would face to face, via cash. It was also found that people are more comfortable asking for sponsorship by email, and apparently, it is less awkward than face-to-face approaches.

It is possible for smaller charitable organisations to generate a ‘big’ charity presence by intelligent use of the Internet.
