Computer Services, Inc. has released Version 4.0 of its corporate intranet, Web@Work. This enhanced version comes loaded with a Google search engine, powerful electronic forms and a new workflow process: a real-time system that simplifies information gathering and reporting to multiple end points. Version 4.0 also features a new look, ease of navigation, and innovative timekeeping features.
Although it is also used in other types of businesses, Web@Work's primary market is community financial institutions. Even before the release of 4.0, Web@Work had earned a four-star rating from bankers by providing them with cost savings and enhanced productivity with no additional staff, hardware or software.
David Culbertson, VP, Research & Business Development, said the Web@Work development team recognized a need to improve the look and feel of the product. "The result is a home page that is easier to read and maneuver," Culbertson said. "We've reclaimed valuable homepage real estate by centralizing administrative functions on an easy-to-use toolbar, and the new Google search engine provides fast and thorough searches of the entire intranet." Also new: an inbox feature that lists items needing attention such as task management tickets, workflow assignments, policies to review, etc. which display as "Pending Alerts" when the user logs on to Web@Work.
Version 4.0 makes it easy for a non-technical person to design professional looking pages without using html code, Culbertson said. "Instead, users can simply copy/paste the formatted information into bulletin board postings and on Intranet pages. The new workflow feature makes it easier for managers to track projects. We've updated the forms/survey engine, added new options to Employee Relationship Management, and made the timekeeping system accessible from the home page."
Web@Work is faster than ever. Version 4.0 uses caching technology to reduce redundant downloading of images and compression technology to reduce the download size of each site by as much as 90%. "We've also optimized the database structure," Culbertson added. "And of course, Web@Work continues to provide secure remote access to company information regardless of where users are located."
