I've just received this press release from Verisign:

==============================================

On August 20 VeriSign are launching their Shared Hosting Security Service which provides allows ISPs & web hosts to share digital certificates with their Web merchants, enabling all businesses small or large to conduct business on the Internet.

This service authenticates Web-based merchants and makes Internet shopping safer for customers -- all within the framework of the popular ISP shared hosting platform. In addition, Web merchants are provided with a click-able site seal (called VeriSign's silver Secure Site Seal) as a visual symbol of
authenticity and security.

It's about time, they've been promising to launch that program for quite some time now. With all the unauthorized cert sharing going on, they've needed to release a product that allows companies to set up secure.domainname.com sites for use by multiple customers, while still retaining all the consumer protections that SSL is intended to provide.

It will be interesting to see what their pricing model is going to be.
