Does Anyone Use Pay Pal as their primary means of accepting Credit Card Payments for their hosting services? I'm considering using it as my primary payment method and I'd like some feedback from others.

How well received is it by your customers?
What proportion of your customers pay via Pay Pal?

Thanks

I do for my company although in a couple of weeks we are going to be getting a credit card gateway so that we can accept payments on our own most people dont have problems using paypal

Hi,

We don’t use PayPal as a payment gateway, as we have decided to opt for WorldPay.com, and to be honest with you the service has been incredible.

However, for those who don’t have their own payment gateway, I think PayPal is a good low cost alternative and is also trusted by many individuals.

There are some issues with PayPal but these you would accept from a payment gateway which deals with many merchants and from across the world. Apparently PayPal.com has a terrorist / fraud check list, and at times if your name appears on their list your account is barred requesting you to provide further information to validate who you are.

During this process your account is unable to accept any payments, and any funds in your PayPal account are also locked, the validation process can take anywhere from a couple of days to a week or more.

This is the only irritating aspect of PayPal, but once your details are validated usually your account is not barred again, if it is, the same process must be repeated.

PayPal is a reliable and reputable low cost alternative.

We do

1.) All major credit cards (via Auth.net)
2.) PayPal
3.) StormPay (for customers in non-paypal-friendly countries)

This seems to be ideally for us; I wouldn't set things up any other way.

PayPal just recently released a credit card merchant service. Allows you to accept credit cards without the users even having a PayPal account.

Yes, it was only after this that I considered Pay Pal.

Thanks for the feedback.

We only accept PayPal payments for verified non-U.S. residents who we cannot process directly (eg: Visa Electron). We do strict personal phone verification and in certain countries (including Nigeria) we do mail-back signature verification. Over the past couple of years, PayPal has turned into a mix of legitiment transactions and compromised "hacked" accounts. PayPal has become very agressive in their chargeback practices and tend to freeze funds on a whim. It's no wonder the second result for 'PayPal' under any major search engine is a large anti-PayPal community -- The stories there are horrifying.

I don't think you can go paypal-only, for any business. Not everyone is comfortable using paypal. It should definately be a payment option but not your sole method. You still need to take credit cards directly too.

I think that paypal is very good for small hosting companies who are trying to get from 0 clients to 10 clients. Once there are enough customers, then companies should change to a merchant account.

just my opinion

We have PayPal and mail in payment. We are currently waiting on our merchant account to finish setting up.
