Hi,

The first thing is you can do it and most of the websites are setup that way. There will not be a big difference in the upload/download the site. The difference though is when you have some problem with your site, or the site is down so forth. If you have two providers then the blame goes here and there. You will be confused. So i would suggest to go for one provider, but it is also like to put all your eggs in one basket.

So it is not easy. Make sure that you will get the ownership of your domain.

Best Luck !

My suggestion would be to have the domain transferred to somewhere like Enom or GoDaddy.. They are reliable registrar's and I wouldn't want to leave my domain anywhere else...

I would say sometimes its better that way. All you have to do is chage the dns to your host's DNS, in your registrar page.. Some Hosts tend to make u stay with them becouse of domain problems. .

I don't see any problem with that since it's is only a DNS change which is done in a minute or two.

Hi I'm new here can you plz tell me how i would go about getting my forum hosted.

Do you have a forum script? If you don't than many host can provide an auto installer (EasyApp, Fantastico) which will install phpBB, a free forum script.

So you will need a hosting plan, a forum script, and a domain name.

Whilst Coolweb raises a good point, the reality of maintaining your domain name registration with a different provider to your web hosting is that its not that confusing, nor is it particularly difficult to get your head around.

If there is a problem with your site not been displayed then simply check the following with your registrar before you jump down your web hosts throat:
  • Your Name Servers are correct.
(Allow 24-48 hours for any changes you have made to take effect.)
  • Your domain hasn't expired or entered a redemption period.
(ie: you forgot to renew it.)

Beyond that, 99 times out of 100, the issue will lie with your web host.

While there is no problem having your domain regsitered through one company and your hosting through another, just be sure and remember to keep your contact email up to date at the site where your domain is regsitered

We are forever getting clients asking why their domain is down and what is wrong with our servers etc when in fact it is because they changed ISP, forgot to update their contact email and the domain had expired with the lot they registered it through
