Does anyone have any experience of this web host? It looks good. I need a site that will password protect a folder for me, I can't do it myself. This one offers that as part of the package.

This is my first web host selection and I need to get it right!

Any information appreciated.

Thanks :-))

Lots of host allow password protected directory which can be done easily through a control panel.

About hostexcellence.com, I have never heard of them but if they have a 30-day money back you could give them a try.

I actually think that all hosts support password protection to folders. Just some dont say so becouse its obvious you can.

Thanks for your replies. How secure is a password protected folder, is it secure enough or do I need more?
Royalty Hosting
Well if you don't need to access the folder using HTTP, you may want to place it on the root of your account and secure it (not in a domain folder). You will only be able to access it through FTP though.

I'm not sure if I am asking the right question ! I am setting up a website for a community of owners which I want to be available to non-owners too so we can show properties for sale or for rental. But there will be private information on the site too eg. accounts, owners newsletters etc. I want to restrict access to this part of the site exclusively to owners. Is a password protected folder the right way to do this?
Royalty Hosting
You could do it with password protected directories. Let's say you secure www.domain.com/owners than any file under that folder will need authentication.

Great, I was asking the right question!! Thank you so much for your help. Do you think it would be sufficiently secure? And how would it work on the website - do I add a form for login or is it automatic? Thanks for your patience.
Royalty Hosting
Not need for a login form, the user accessing the secure pages will be prompt with a a popup requesting username/password.

What requirements in term of disk space/bandwidth will you need and what is your budget?

password protect is essential these days..
Essentials
lookup:

.htaccess

on the web and simply place one of those files with the proper information in your directory and it will password protect it for you.

Most hosts probably supply a means of automatically creating these files for you as well.
