If I buy a dedicated server, can I do the following with my server:

(1) host multiple websites from my server.

(2) Sell webspace & bandwidth to other users. These users should be able to control their own websites.

regards

That is why it is called dedicated. Try www.ev1servers.net

You will need more experience if you are trying to do this asking these questions as the servers are unmanaged. Meaning you will need to fix issues that will come up.

Investigate it further before getting into it as it is not a quick way to make money. It takes alot of hard work!!!
Essentials
You can do the same with a reseller account
C-4 Hosting
Depending on how many clients you expect to host, or even how many clients you want to host will determine if you want a reseller account or your own dedicated server.

If your leaning towards a dedicated server, I would suggest looking at http://www.beachcomber-creations.com/ . They are extremely reliable and have TRUE 24x7 support. There prices are extremely reasonable too!

If you jsut want to do those two things then you should think about the reseller web hosting also. It is cheap and it is easy to maintain than the dedicated box.

So i would suggest that.

I would agree with Coolweb in the sense that if your not expecting to grow extremely rapidly then being a reseller would be the best bet! Especially if you are new to the industry and dont have a good amount of experience with owning and running your own dedicated server. Unless you have had your own dedicated server and know what goes into it each and every day, best to start small and work your way up! There are so many things that go into having your own dedicated server.. Maintanence, Security, Your everyday querks, overhead... If your not prepared at the moment to invest a ton of time into these things, then definately become a reseller to start!

Like C4 says its just as easy and paying $99 and having your own servers for hosting websites. You need to make sure your server is secure and this is no easy task as any linux admin will tell you. If you ignore this fact your server won't last more than a week.
