www.bobparsons.com Generates Controversy and Spawns Radio Go Daddy
The Go Daddy Group, Inc., parent company of GoDaddy.com, the No. 1 registrar of domain names worldwide, has announced that the controversial web log ("blog") authored by its president and founder, Bob Parsons -- and the impetus for the recently launched Radio Go Daddy (
www.radiogodaddy.com) -- will not only reach its six month anniversary next week, but has become a staple of the company's products and services.
When the advertisers for Super Bowl XXXIX were announced in late 2004, commentary -- both pro and con -- about Go Daddy's decision to purchase a Super Bowl ad, was found in traditional media venues and posted on several blogs. Parsons personally responded to the criticism on one such blog, which then served as the impetus for him to launch his own blog,
www.bobparsons.com. But both Go Daddy and Parsons were uncertain at the time as to just how long the blog endeavor would continue, or, where it would lead if it did continue.
"When I launched my blog in mid-December, I wanted it to be a forum to discuss important issues impacting technology and the Internet, and to serve as a basis for opening up additional lines of communication between Go Daddy and its customers -- and to have some fun," said Parsons. "Still, I had no idea whether it would 'take off' and even if it did, I knew it might not last much further than a few weeks after Super Bowl Sunday. This was especially true since half of my posts in January and February 2005 discussed the Super
Bowl, and the ensuing controversy surrounding our ad."
Parsons' blog postings soon began to elicit numerous comments and 'trackbacks' -- and from individuals who were not previously Go Daddy customers. Parsons' also decided to continue writing each blog post himself, and to "tell it like it is" without any sugar-coating or political correctness. Comments and trackbacks continued, so Parsons continued blogging. He greatly expanded his topic list to include highly personal matters, such as his combat experiences in Vietnam, his subsequent struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and his fear of public speaking.
As the six-month anniversary of Parsons' blog approaches, the company and Parsons have decided that not only will the blog continue, but that it will continue to address Internet and other issues 'head-on' and not be afraid to generate controversy. The success of Parsons' blog was the basis for the company's recent decision to launch Radio Go Daddy -- a weekly show broadcast LIVE every Wednesday at 7 pm (PST)/ 10 pm (EST) via the Internet and over Sirius and XM Satellite Radio stations (as well as select AM stations) (
www.radiogodaddy.com).
"Both my blog and Radio Go Daddy have not only added new dimensions to our corporate culture, but in addition, now serve as important communication mediums both for attracting new customers and for communicating with existing ones," added Parsons. "Clearly, they have become a staple of our products and services and a key component of our continued success."
