Ah jeez, i`ve got yet another retard question:

Don`t most people have 15 inch monitors like i do? Cause alot of people told me that 17 inch is better so i just went and bought one and set the resloution to 1024X768 and i hate it!

Is it just me or does everything on your monitor show up really tiny when you have the resolution set at 1024X768?

Even addr`s site looks screwed up then....it`s all squased to the left....(instead of covering the entire sides of the screen)....is that how it shows up on your monitors?

I've always (well, for about 4 years anyway) had a 17" monitor, but for a long time I ran it at 800x600 anyway. When I got my current computer back in May, the monitor was a lot better quality than the old one, so I decided to up the resolution to 1024x768.

At first, I absolutely hated it. But I knew that it was just the change of it that I didn't like (I've always been averse to changes), so I forced myself to stick with it. And you know what? After about 3 days it didn't bother me anymore.

Now, whenever I see a computer set to 800x600 (or even worse 640x480) I can't stand to look at it - it just all looks totally wrong.

If your monitor is "clean" enough (i.e. the image isn't fuzzy at high resolutions), you will almost certainly begin to like 1024x768. It'll take a little while to get used to, but once you're used to it you'll wonder how you ever worked at 800x600.

Just for fun after reading this thread, I double checked my settings! Like Jason says above...you adjust after a few days?
My son has constantly tried to get me to do the 1024x768 settings...WELL, I just checked mine and could have sworn I had mine set on 800x600
LOL....mine is set at 1024x768, and also with small fonts selected. Im not sure if he snuck this one in on me OR if I actually left it alone the last time he did change it.
Years ago I did the 640x480 and couldnt grasp how people viewed with the 800x600 size! Then I switched to 800x600 for along time. You make gradual switches I guess...and thats probably due to what type monitor, video card and whatever else may come into play!!
I still have a few 15" monitors, but 99% of my time is spent on a 19" and the other 1% of the time I view on 17"
Ahh...what fun!!

I have a 19" monitor with a resolution of 1280x1024. If i had a 17" then i wouldn't run it at less than 1024x768. The higher the res the better for me, you can fit more on your screen without scrolling around!

Hi EyeSee and welcome to the forums.

I totally agree with you, when I go up in res it's because I want to jam in as much as possible. It's great for scripting or when you want to work on multiple applications at the same but could really do without constantly tabbing back and forth between windows.

I have a 17" monitor and it's set to 1024 x 768 resolution. It *does* look strange at first, but as Jason said, once you get used to it, you won't want to go back.

I like having things at that resolution mostly because it makes viewing the web a much more rewarding experience - sharper images, more fitting on the page...

I also like to have several windows open at once on my desktop so having things at that resolution makes it possible to fit more on my screen.
