Total newbie here..participated in a message board that was bought by corporate so and so's. Board has died.

I would like to start a new board. Am going to buy the vbulletin software, and now need a place to put it. The previous message board was VERY active, and had 8 GB worth of bandwidth daily according to the previous moderator. This did not include putting pictures up, which I'll want to enable, but did include much ddos attacks as the software was home grown and susceptible to such.

I have no idea what I'll need, and could use some advice.

Anyone who wishes to respond may email me at linda@wildglobe.com also.

Thanks!

i dont know what you have or how much you know...but heres as much as i can think of!

what you will need::
1)a Domain Name
2)a webhost with support for PHP - 8 GB bandwidth or more (according to your needs) - (accourding to your needs)MB Space (100 should cover it - i think!)
that should get you started

Wow, that's one rather large board - 240GB per month You will also need a mySQL database and a relatively fast server. If you are needing that much bandwidth per month you are probably better to look for a dedicated server though.

I would agree with TJR. If you are going to need that much bandwidth I would advise looking into your own dedicated server or possibly a VPS (virtual private server)

Did you check www.HostMarker.com ?

It has categorised list of web hosting companies and lists prices and detailed feature information of hosting plans available at these companies.

You can also search for hosting plans based on their prices and features provided.

If you don't want to spend time searching for a web host and it's plans, you can use their Get-a-Quote service to request FREE quotes from qualified hosting companies. I tried this service and received almost 10 quotes in 1 hour. They even made special discounts when sending quotes.

Therefore, I recommend you to visit www.hostmarker.com Web hosting directory.

Other web sites that will help you are as follows:

www.hostsearch.com : good resource for reading reviews of real customers
www.hostquote.com : another good free quote service provider.
