Beware -- computer viruses and phishing schemes disguised as season's greetings are on the rise.
What: Beware -- computer viruses and phishing schemes disguised as season's greetings are on the rise. The Zafi e-mail worm hides behind subject lines such as "Merry Christmas," "Happy Holidays" and "Warm Wishes From..." and once unleashed, it exploits Windows operating systems. This Christmas "Grinch" spreads through e-mail addresses collected from computers it infects. Online shopping this season is more popular than ever -- up 25 percent from last year. Online citizens need to practice precautions to not fall victim during this busy season.
Who: Internet expert Christopher Faulkner is prepared to discuss current phishing schemes and computer viruses and how online citizens can protect themselves.
Faulkner is CEO and founder of C I Host, the largest privately held Web hosting firm, serving 215,000 clients in 190 countries.
Where: C I Host is centrally located and accessible to both coasts via the DFW Airport, just a few miles away. Faulkner is available for in-studio interviews given advance notice.
When: December 21, 2004 C I Host is on Central time, but Faulkner is prepared to work around the schedules of media producers, assignments editors and writers.
