Hello gurus,

I am just trying to setup a web+mail server with FreeBSD 5.3. But still having no luck

Just having a few questions, I am really confused about:::

1. That how can one access their virtual/static websites within the LAN i.e. by just typing http://www.domain.tld???

2. Is it necessary to give name to a webserve "WWW" or it could be any "XYZ"? and in case it has name "xyz", can we still access that machine with www.domain.tld?

3. If one machine is having NAME "xyz" and DOMAIN "domain.tld" does machine name make any effect on mail server i.e. would mail.domain.tld work?

4. To create an email account as "myname@domain.tld", would I have to create a user manually on the server or what? And if so, what would be the user home directory?

I would be really very appreciative of your kind help....

Thanks....

Hey veejay,

2. The web address for a site can be xyz.domain.com. Take a look at the forums url.

3. To have the xyz.domain .com to resolve, you will need to add a dns record. You will need to do this for all domains you wnat to resolve, ie mail. www.

4. What mail server are you using?
