Hi,

I'm looking to move web hosts to a provider with shared hosting, anti virus pop3 / web mail and hosted ms exchange.

I've narrowed it down to 1&1 and Fasthosts. I've seen some bad reviews re Fasthosts and haven't found anything good or bad regarding 1&1.

Does anybody have experince of either of these two?

I haven't had experience with 1 & 1 but Fasthosts was ok but I was with them about (3 years ago) I just ran a hobby website which I didn't care if it was up or down. I know they suck you in on dirt-cheap prices but then charge you a lot for stuff like database, scripting support, etc. You should check that your plan has everything you want and if it doesn't check what the price will be with the features you want.

In regards to the horror stories, I think you will get that with most of the large companies. Once they get to a certain size, there care for customer’s drops and your just another number. But the same works with smaller companies. If the company is basically a one-man band in his bedroom he may not have enough time to give you the attention you need. I would always recommend finding a medium sized business to host your site.
